Looks like QVC let him go. Don't think it was his decision either since a vendor at QVC who posts on another board ended her post about watching his last show yesterday with "Ba humbug QVC"....

No wonder Patti was asked to stay longer than she had planned to...
Of course we might be seeing more of David Venable now....

We should also be seeing some new host trainees soon.....

Weird that QVC still has "Gifts from Bob's Kitchen" on now instead of retitling the name of the show.

From what I gather from reading the reports of Bob leaving, it was a sudden decision. The hosts were given a memo a day or 2 ago about Bob "leaving" QVC and one poster on QVC BB's said Bob was fired! That QVC wants to go in a new direction and some other older hosts would also be gone sooner or later. (MBR? Lisa Mason? looks like no one's job at QVC is safe these days. The ones making the most money are the ones who must be wondering how much longer the Q will keep them).

David V is doing Bob's show today and Bob did leave a recorded message saying goodbye yesterday. (A recorded message not a live goodbye!) And just before Christmas...

I remember reading on the TVTalkshow's site that Boob Boringsux was supposed to have left a couple of years ago to do a series for the Food Network; and that Sharon Faetsch was to be his replacement

Probably was just the time for Bob to go, and I would think that if others would be going too.
That Lisa Mason is one of them, she hasn't really been on that much this year.
Jacque's contract was renewed this year so I don't think she be going, maybe Pat or Jayne might be on the list too and even Jane.

QVC had a male host? Who knew?

I do not have any good sources in this.. But a girlfriend was saying to me earlier that the Q is starting to get that Old Lady flavor. She works for a company that was shopping the networks that was more than the Q- H and others...This Company sells beauty products and really did not want to get stuck on one of the minor channels..etc
I know Bob is the Old Guard at the Q----Oh let me digress--When The Company was in negations with the Q...One of the complaints was that HSN is moving to the considered in thing--IE like Cosmo-or Elle ETC.....They did not want to be branded with the so called OLD...

Could this be the beginning of a move towards the young crowd---Without the overkill of HSN?

Or is this Bod just wanting to do something else but cook on Sundays

Brando applied for QVC job (in the UK)

According to UK tabloid The Sun, movie legend Marlon Brando once applied for a job at TV shopping channel QVC.

We find this hard to believe but an aide at the channel revealed that “He was down to his last £6,000 when he bizarrely agreed to appear disguised in a wig and women’s clothes — but never took up the job.”

Had he of taken the job, maybe he would of made an offer that no one could refuse…

Brando passed away in July 2004 after a long career that saw him win many awards including Oscars, BAFTAs and Golden Globes.

The good news is for once QVC got rid of somebody I couldn't care less about. The bad news is that this could mean that QVC has decided that it needs to cut costs to ride out the recession, and it's going to do so by cutting salaries by replacing experienced hosts. Hopefully that's won't be the case.

(Granted, that replacement thing probably wouldn't be so bad if they would let me pick who goes, who stays, and who is brought on, but that's not very likely! )

Bob seemed like a nice guy, but I did not watch him. If he is as good as a cook like they say, he will be better off in the long run.

I don't think qvc is cutting the older host do to the pay. If a host can make money no matter how old they are, why get rid of them ?

Take Patty, she was never that good as a host (IMO) yet she is not dumb enough to quit without having a job to go to unless she was going to do something on her own. Yet she is still there after how long ? If she had a job lined up, she would have to go there or they realy did not need her.

Dave King got the boot, he was one stuck up person. Bob did not have alot to offer but cooking, yet other host did as good as he did and knew other stuff better then he did.

Kathy Levine was a big draw and QVC has brought her back in a small way which I think in the end, she will return as a host.

Alot of venders seems like they are going to HSN, which is a sign that QVC is slipping or getting them POed.

As I posted before, somebody is in talks of comming back (she sent me an e-mail) but you got that 1 year you need to wait. I have not heard back from her and I will not say who she is, cuz I would love to see her come back and my guess is everybody here would too. And if I give the name, it may ruin her from comming back.

Now if you want to talk about giving the boot because of age, what age do you start at ? Then if they do get fired but sell more then the younger host, I thing QVC will lose in court and owe $$$$millions

Rumors are rumors & facts are facts. You need to get rid of people that don't make the bucks, and keep the people that do. Like it or not, the thoughts that come out of this site and others like this, has nothing to do with what QVC or it's shareholders want.

To save money, they could get rid of 1/3 of the host and about the same of the models.

I think he knew it was coming as did Dave King who, by the way is LOVING the q-less life. His son is going to college in Southern Cal and he is spending a lot of time out there. Auditioning. Networking. He is a personal friend and I can say he is well.

It would have been heartless of Q to not let him say goodbye. In light of "retirement" or whatever he professed there will be no farewell party. Sad.

QVC is looking to a younger, hipper direction. I know we have all (guests) been required to go through an evaluation for looks, dress, etc ... that is why my hair is different and why many, many more of us are dressing up. You see new sets. More new sets being built now. In fact, we are working out of a make-shift annex set not the new sets. Look for new clothes and jewelry sets and a new show kitchen soon.

I love my work there, but I am freelance. I know I could be pulled at any time. I am thankful for every day. I go in with a positive, fun and prepared attitude and I hope I get to keep on keeping on for a few more years.

The 600 or so employees QVC laid off had no prior notice; they came in one morning and got a memo that they were being let go. The hosts and guests got a memo Friday night about Bob...and he was gone Saturday!

Na na na na...na na na na...hey hey hey...goodbye.

Now if they would drop Dave with those darn yummy faces when he eats.

sundemon, I agree with you on much you said But alot of places do not give warnings to the very end.

As far as the so called 600 layoffs, that is bad news. Yet as a company upgrades to run a company better, in most cases, that means layoffs.

As far as cutting cost, they can cut it in many ways. 1st is to get rid of some host. I don't see any reason why they need to put 2 host doing a 1,2, or 3 hour show. When Barry Dillard ran it, is was 1 host for 4 hours. they beeds to go bacj to that way.

2nd, I'm sure they pay the models by the hour no matter how much time the are on the air. So wht being out 4 or 5 to show off a pocketbook for 5 minutes ?

And how many of those layoffs took phone orders ? With the internet, you don't need to use the phone. As far as what the host makes, that chump change when it comes to the cost. It's not like the have 100's of host.

But as 1 vender said 'they work for QVC' I would like to know if QVC is trying to find out who is leaking this, cuz when they do, that will be 1 less vender
