When the dust clears I hope someone does a accurate timeline of events concerning Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Fox News and The View. Just like the New Yorker did with Ann Curry and NBC.
I am under the impression Fox News wanted Elisabeth for years based on her saying three years ago on the View that she was not leaving the show and she was quick to say she was not leaving to Fox News. Then the tweets posted in this thread back up the claim that Fox News wanted her for years.
Then the rumors came out, following Behar's announcement of leaving the View, that Elisabeth was also being dumped. Then Barb shot down the reports and it seemed like Elisabeth was staying. However weeks later, about two months ago, I read that Fox News was very actively trying to get her. What I want to know is how it all went down. Did Fox News contact her before Behar announced she was leaving and she said yes. Did the View try to dump her and Fox News came calling, before the rumors came out? Did she call Fox News upon realizing it was over for her at The View or did Fox News call her after the rumors came out? and how does this all fit with Behar's announcement? Was she too being pushed out once it became clear Elisabeth was gone or was it that Behar wanted out and the show decided to dump Elisabeth too? Or did Elisabeth decide to leave on her own and Joy felt it was time to go with her, but Joy announced it too early, or were both just being dumped and Elisabeth began looking for work at Fox News?
Also by joining Fox News, Elisabeth has to be the complete opposite of her character that she played on The View. On The View she tried to not discuss news, was toned down, and was discussing fluffy topics mostly. She quit being vocal after the 2008 elections. Then she started back peddling on topics and stances between 2009 and 2011. She acted like she wholeheartedly supported the likes of MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and some liberal guests at times. She quit asking the hard questions and was too polite. Then Obama called her his favorite republican. It seemed to me like she was rejecting being partisan and political and was not interesting in politics or in Fox News. On top of that it seemed like Elisabeth was not a very good news junkie and very knowledgeable in her facts. Like she crammed her studies over night to discuss a topic the next day because it would be brought up. But it also felt like she gave up caring after a while. And she quit going on Fox News. I had always considered her to be just another Kelly Ripa and not a Natalie Morales or Megyn Kelly.
And now she heads to Fox News and will talk about the news. Hmmmm............ That's why I am having a hard time with this. It was not her M. O. all these years. It is a very odd situation. The whole thing is very odd. Going from a fashion show to doing news in 12 years. Guess I am still confused and stunned.
Fox & Friends is not a hard hitting news show, it's not like she is suddenly joining 60 Minutes. She'll read a few headlines at the top of the hour, that will be the extent of her doing news. On the the first half of the The View they would talk about the current events of the day, that is essentially what she'll be doing on FOX.
