Over the years there have been several beauty pageant winners who have gone on to host national news programs. But whoever heard of someone who actually left being a reporter to take part in a beauty pageant. Well, my area has now had two. The first being Christina Thompson, who left being a reporter over at ABC13 in Lynchburg, Virginia to compete and eventually win Miss Virginia. And now it seems Ava Braatz, who is the cohost of Living In The Heart of Virginia on ABC13 has the same ambition. Usually, it's pageant contestants who became anchors/reporters like Robin Meade and Christi Paul among others though there are some expectations like I believe Laura Rutledge was Miss Florida during her time at Fox Sports Florida and there was someone (Liana Bracket) from TWC who was Mrs. Georgia. Christina Thompson is now on NewsMax I believe.

As I recall, former Fox morning show host Gretchen Carlson was Miss America, she is a executive with the pageant today.
