The all-female hosted, female produced "We Need To Talk" is celebrating their 10th anniversary. Names like Sarah Kustok, Tracy Wolfson, Lesley Visser, Jenny Dell, Dana Jacboson, Swin Cash, Tina Cervasio, Aditi Kinkhabwala, Andrea Kremer, Allie LaForce, Summer Sanders, and Lisa Leslie, just to name a few have left their mark in many forms of media--namely television. And the way they present their show is amazing. I have seen some clips on YouTube on topics I found to be interesting and it blows my mind everything, especially since the 2023 NCAA Tournament when it was the Caitlin Clark breakout party when the Iowa Hawkeyes reached the national title game before having that "moment" with Angel Reese of LSU, and we all know what happened on that instant replay. The first of 3 episodes aired at the time I typed this post. The other two episodes will air separately on the CBS Sports Network. Both episodes (that will be streamed on Paramount+) will discuss their history and where women's sports will catapult next in our society. Plus, they are never afraid to discuss men's sports--namely the NFL Playoffs, Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four in men's and women's basketball. Here's the link to more about this groundbreaking show that airs every Sunday morning. And let us all say Congratulations, Ladies. Here's to 10 more years https://awfulannouncing.com/cbs/we-need-to-talk-anniversary-amy-salmanson.html A look back at an early review of the first set of episodes: https://awfulannouncing.com/2014/need-talk-gimmick-good-show.html |

It isn't that great. Different people host the show and the format always changes depending on what they want to do and it's also gone for several months of the year. Dana Jacobson kind of quit being a member of it because she's focusing more on working on the CBS weekend news. It is what it is. |

The program, from what I have seen with random clips on YouTube has had its' moments. But the increase in constant NFL pregame shows from September to the Super Bowl in February, plus other key topics from March Madness to the World Series--at least they offer some expertise in the sport(s) they cover. As you saw in the opening segment, there were some segments where they do talk about the NFL and the NCAA Tournament, and I presume the longtime cherished property that CBS has covered since the late 1950's with The Masters every April. Otherwise, I agree with some sports media columnists (I can't recall the names off the top of my head) but the show sometimes doesn't have the right flow. It's like we're begging for the next commercial break to begin. But that's just me. At least, seeing the show reach 10 years is still quite a milestone--no matter what your opinion of the show, and the women who are both in front of and behind the cameras. Otherwise, it would be another 60 minutes of endless football chatter that is simply too much blabbing and not enough substance unlike in the glory days of the late 1970's to around 2000, before the Internet really took over our lives. |
