On September 5, ABC13 WSET sports reporter Dave Walls was let go from his contract.
Question is, nobody seems to know why.
Dave was a great reporter who was placed in a rather tough situation. He came into the job due to the pandemic. WSET had hired another sports director due to retirement of longtime sports anchor and legend Dennis Carter. Problem is that reporter didn't have much to report about due to the health conditions the world unfortunately gave him. So....he quit.
Enter Dave Walls, who had done everything from being a news reporter to doing the weather. And Dave was an excellent sports anchor. Having to cover a department pretty much by himself.
His release has started a public backlash against WSET on social media. Many questioning why WSET seems to be a revolving door for reporters unless you're grandfathered in like three of their anchors.
I know that this topic isn't about "babes", but Dave's release is just another story in the strange world of the news business.
Dave doing a story on Marine training.
A WSET podcast with Dave, Will Stafford, Dennis Carter and Justin Feldkamp.
One of the hilarious "Tasty Trend" segments with Kelsey Childress

I know nothing about this guy or his situation, but usually these moves are made when the person is making more money than the station wants to pay for the position (although in Lynchburg Virginia, how much could that have really been?) It almost never has anything to do with how good or bad they are at the job.

What doesn't make sense to me is that Dave Walls has done anything and everything asked of him at that station. News reporting, weather, and finally the main sports anchor. In my opinion, he deserves a raise! Everybody loves him. Now to let him go, just to try to find someone else? That would make their 4th sports anchor in 5 years! It might get so bad they might just coax Dennis Carter out of retirement!
