It all stems not so much from what Kimmel said, unlike what Stephen Colbert who clearly went over the line. Rather, it was a series from the Nexstar stations, where their viewers complained about his remarks from Monday's show and the network capitulated.

Nexstar is merging with Tegna so that’s why it pulled its stations
Paramount was merging with Skydance so that’s why CBS pulled Colbert
If what Colbert and Kimmel said was so bad, why can Kilmeade call for homeless people to be euthanized and nothing happens to him?

And Kimmel's comment was not as harsh as what Stephen Colbert said--where he went scorched earth. Yet, Colbert is still on the air, at least until May 2026.

All we can do is write letters, send emails, and hope that their corporate heads actually listen to our complaints for a change (like that might happen.)

No word from Disney on what they are deciding to do in filling Kimmel's time slot starting on Monday.

On Wednesday, the network aired a re-run of Celebrity Family Feud. I did not find out what aired on Thursday, but Friday the network is going to have a one-hour tribute show in Kirk's memory.

Similar to Stephen Colbert, when the Skydance/Paramount merger finally happened, there is a similar hangup with Sinclair having already acquired Tagnet is hoping their regulation deal can be approved which would take a huge swath of the country--a major red flag:

To be clear it's Sinclair not ABC that produced and is running this on their stations, important difference.

Even if Brendan Carr goes after the network and the many affiliates under the Sinclair and Nexstar umbrellas, there will be a lot of legal hopes they would have to jump through. Bottom line, it might take years:
