This happens less than a week after photos of her and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel were seen at an adults only resorted in Arizona prior to the NFL annual owner's meetings.

Here is the story with links from the original reporting by the New York Post, and her official resignation letter sent via email and reposted on many social media accounts:

weak.
you don't get to resign then claim you're completely innocent.
why'd you resign then?

First she lied to her bosses about it.
now she's lying again.

Not exactly.

Look at her resignation letter:

https://bsky.app/profile/diannarussini.bsky.social/post/3mji6hpqu4k2f

Dianna was caught in a situation where her reporting is being labelled as a double standard. In the end, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel will get off scot free and Dianna will hope to find a job in podcasting (some online rumor last week had Stugotz having something in mind for her.)

And "The Sports Gossip Show" on YouTube hosted by Madeline Hill and Charlotte Wilder, there was more to this story than what the New York Post originally posted last week.

The conversation starts around the 19:37 mark:

Bottom line, the investigation into Dianna's conduct continues and she leaves behind a position where she was constantly facing lots of pressure from competition, both online and with her former employer at ESPN.
And she got paid handsomely, even while being married to two young sons on top of it.

Unfortunately, that's how women are still treated these days when following men's sports--or even getting the chance to interview players during press conferences (or back in the day where they actually went into their locker rooms following games, some with towels hanging over their shoulders.)

Steven Ginsberg, Editor at The Athletic explained as best he could on why their investigation has taken on a whole different turn since last Saturday.

Bottom line, never think that you can go anywhere and not get noticed.

Like we see in Hollywood, women can't get ahead in the industry unless they "sleep with the guy in charge" or go up to the hotel room he is staying in to "sign some papers":

https://defector.com/dianna-russini-mike-vrabel-the-athletic?giftLink=1a891651515d783b69535d621ebd53ee

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/dianna-russini-story-women-arent-blame-media-issues/38d3d43d0b583d38632c65a9

And yet, even if the investigation turns out to be what most of us think it is going to be--Coach Mike Vrabel will continue to coach the Patriots and get away with this scot free.

If anyone doesn't see that the lines of journalism are blurred more and more, you might just put your head in the sand or just ignore social media.
But that's been the reality for a long time, and women are told early and often--to say "no" any time a man wants to get to know the woman better outside of work.

The coach doesn’t have to have journalistic integrity.
She does.

Even the Athletic guy who originally defended her admitted “new questions were raised” the more they looked into it.
Translation: she lied to us.

Then why didn’t she say no?

It's the number one question, but the way she and Coach Vrabel were expressive their "love" for each other up in that bungalow--there are a lot more questions than answers.
That's perhaps the best way I can explain it.

She got exactly what she deserved IMO.
A reporter can’t be seen holding hands and canoodling in a hot tub with someone they are “covering,” even if it was innocent.
And since we now know she lied to her bosses about it, it probably wasn’t innocent.

You don't see this story following a scandal.

A multi car crash happens right in front of you, and you have nowhere to go. Your first instinct is to survey the scene, then if it's safe to park the car and run out to see if they need help.
Page Six again on Friday had the exclusive details taking place in Dianna's home state:

https://pagesix.com/2026/04/17/celebrity-news/dianna-russini-mounts-daring-rescue-of-elderly-man-dog/

The Patch from Wycoff, New Jersey has more including some very depressing photos of the damaged vehicles:

https://patch.com/new-jersey/wyckoff/nfl-reporter-dianna-russini-rescued-man-dog-jeep-crash-wyckoff-report

At least, the dog emerged unharmed and nobody died in the crash.

Getting back to the other side which hasn't been talked about much outside of one reporter from 98.5 The Hub in Boston, which carries the New England Patriots games--the NFL came out with a statement on Head Coach Mike Vrabel, which basically was a small slap on the wrist.

ESPN has the full story that not even Page Six provided since the scandal broke and how she had to take desperate measures to keep a straight face, so-to speak. Reading the parts outside of her mini-affair in Arizona gave me some chills:

At-least she isn't young enough to be his grand daughter or he old enough to be her grand father. Would it be better if he was fired by the Patriots or Patriots had draft pick taken away?

All we know is that Coach Vrabel will be speaking to the press later this week with the NFL Draft taking place in Pittsburgh. I am sure websites like Awful Announcing, let alone The Athletic and the New York Post will be all over this developing story like a blanket.

Late Sunday night, the website InTouch had an exclusive story about Robert Kraft, the longtime owner of the New England Patriots trying to give Coach Vrabel more time to respond (through industry norms, again I am not familiar with these types of things since we are not celebs--thank goodness.)
In other words, Kraft tried to put pressure on Russini and The Athletic and attempted to contact the New York Post in order to kill the story:

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-patriots-tried-to-stop-new-york-post-from-publishing-the-mike-vrabel-dianna-russini-photos

The question becomes, with In Touch’s exclusive reporting puts Kraft directly in the suppression effort--what did the team know behind the scenes before the story was published, when they knew it, and what exactly a “notorious crisis strategist” told the Post on Robert Kraft’s behalf that wasn’t enough to kill the story.

So Russini originally said this whole story was nothing, Vrabel said it was “laughable,” yet Kraft tried to get the Post to kill the story.
Why?
Someone’s lying obviously.

And is Kraft really going to judge people for their sexual proclivities after his trip to the Asian spa years ago?

Again, Dianna contacted a crisis counselor to set her side of the story. The New York Post and The Athletic mentioned some bits of this scandal, but portions of this story remain a secret, because the investigation is still ongoing.
One thing I should have mentioned earlier--what about the other four guests staying in that hotel?

Were they in the area? Did they notice anything that would have been worthy of reporting?
Did the "spy" shoo them away so they managed to get the "money shots" of Dianna and Coach Vrabel, both when they were together and separately on the pool deck.
Until I know something more, just stay tuned to various podcasts on YouTube unless Coach Vrabel speaks about this to the New England media on Draft night Thursday.

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel broke his silence Tuesday afternoon regarding the Dianna Russini scandal, in comments to reporters in Foxboro with the draft just two days away:

Totally agree, we would’ve seen pictures on their Instagram or heard from them by now if they were actually there.
