In a first-person essay on Tuesday morning, she explained why this was the right time to say good bye to the SEC Network--a place where she gained her first major national assignment: https://www.espnfrontrow.com/2026/05/laura-rutledge-thanks-sec-nation-before-expanding-her-espn-nfl-assignments/ As the rest of the press released mentioned, Laura has already expanded her plate on the NFL side. Last year, she joined Lisa Salters on their MNF coverage. Her hosting of the popular weekday staple NFL Live will have a huge presence during Super Bowl week in southern California. Add to that, she is a proud mother to two young but beginning to grow children. So to say the least, Laura's plate is very full. As for who will take over as host, reports have either Alyssa Lang (who has worked for the network as a fill-in host and sideline reporter in addition to occasionally hosting SportsCenter) or play-by-play announcer Matt Barrie. Either way, the SEC Network remains in good hands (for those who actually can pay to see that channel is another thing.) |

At the kickoff to the annual SEC football Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida, two-time national champion coach Kirby Smart of Georgia said this to kick off his press conference: https://x.com/LauraRutledge/status/2059388051051237519 Isn't that cool? Figuring the SEC is considered by many as the NFL's football factory producing hundreds, upon thousands of future pro greats at every position--this was a nice, classy move by Coach Smart. |
