The year was 1999. Amidst fears of the Y2K bug, the Jacksonville Jaguars (in their fifth season of existence) won the old AFC Central, which added a sixth team that season with the return of the Cleveland Browns. That same season, the Buffalo Bills reached the postseason, only to be up-ended by the Tennessee Titans' infamous Music City Miracle. 18 years have passed, a new century began, and literally every sports team (even the Browns) reached the playoffs...except for the Bills. On the final week of the season, Andy Dalton's miracle TD pass ended the Baltimore Ravens' season and put the Bills in the playoffs, ending the longest playoff drought in North American sports (the Seattle Mariners now own that distinction). This season also saw the Jaguars win the AFC South, their first division title since 1999. The biggest example of the old saying: "The more things change, the more they stay the same." This game will kick off the Sunday half of Wild Card Weekend, and I think it'll be close and down the wire, with the Jags winning. Prediction: Jaguars by 3 #1 |
