The Avalanche fell one point and one shot short of #1 in the Round Robin, but even then, it doesn't change the fact that this team is a strong contender now. I've been told that "if you're good and you're lucky, you're dangerous." I saw both in the game against the Blues; an even mix of talent and luck (the latter coming in the literal final tenth by Nazem Kadri). The Avalanche scored nine goals in the Round Robin; only one came from the Top Line of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen--a true team effort. The Arizona Coyotes made noise of their own by taking down the Nashville Predators in the Qualifying Round. Yes, the Predators are a team whose window is closing fast, but that doesn't diminish what the Coyotes did. A four-game series win over a team who had been making noise since 2016. It's been 20 years since these teams last faced each other in the playoffs; they were the Phoenix Coyotes and they had Shane Doan--that's how long it's been. This will be a good series, but we should take down Zona. Prediction: Avalanche in six #1 |

Coyotes 4, Avalanche 2 Darcy Kuemper did not break this time; stopped 49 of 51 Colorado shots to put Zona on the board. |
