I had a stand alone DVD recorder without a hard disk, and the DVD drive always gets ruined and needs repair.

If I buy a stand alone DVD recorder, with a hard disk included, will I be able to move the video directly to the PC, without using a DVD disk?

I would think you would be better off spending the money on a decent capture/tuner card and using Myth TV to record and then burn your files to dvd.

I have a DVD Recorder with the HDD. I have never had a problem with it and I run it just about 24/7. I think it is 3 1/2 years old.

As ResplendentRegina said, that he does not know if they make them anymore. I know Panasonic stopped making them. I was thinking about getting 1 with a larger HDD and the said they do not make them anymore.

If you got DirecTV, you may want to ask them what happens after they have to change over and get rid of the rabbit ears  I saw (I think on FoxNews) that to be able to watch DirecTV, you will need thier boxes to get the channels. It seems like they make upgrades to my DVR 1 or 2 times a month

As far as hooking up to your PC, I would not know about that, do to the upgrades DirecTV makes.

Slowpoke, so every time you want to move the video to the PC, you have to record it first on the DVD disk and then this disk to the PC?

Is this the only way to move the video from the DVD Recorder with the HDD?

vaco, 1st sorry about not getting back to you sooner

No as far as I know. The only stuff I put on a DVD disc is what I want to save. What makes the HDD good is that the one I have now, I can record for 5 days before I run out of space. If I record on the best setting. I get about 18 1/4 hrs and you can set it to record when you want it to start ans if you put a DVD in, it is just like a VCR tape, but you can record from 00sec. up to 6 hrs. Of course 1 hr will give you a better vid then 6 hrs.

With the hook up I have now, I should be able to move the DVD or the DVR to my PC. But I'm not into all that stuff. If I like what I see on the DVR, I send it to my HDD and the edit what I want. After that, if I think I have anything that you all may like to see, I will post it and I have stuff that I know that nobody here would like (NO, I'M NOt GAY)

If you want, PM me and I'll send you to a site that will give you D/L's and any info. you want.
