Video: HD m2t 1920x1080i about 10 secs, 62mb

Any tips from others doing video and getting smaller file sizes, I'd love to hear from you. Premiere is the only thing on my capture system that can handle the mpg2 hd video, and that creates the m2t file but its pretty big for what the clip length. I could move it to my CS4 Master Collection PC, but that would mean I'd have to give up a lazy lifestyle.

Should I go the h264 codec route?

And what about what software for capping? VLC is okay, but I don't like the new interface and it's not the most responsive to keyboard commands.

Thanks Laker BTW - I just downloaded the newest version of AnyDVDConverterPro (I have full license) and will try it on my Vista64 box. If that works, my compression question is answered. Vista64 didn't like AnyDVD back in May '09 when I got the new box. BUT..... what about an easy to use editor? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Its an Mpeg-2 file. Premiere can be a tad clunky with non native DV files and its output options as a standalone are minimal.

I just tried editing it with Womble & VideoRedoPlus, and they both worked. Womble ha a lot more options, but I like that VideoRedo removes stream errors. Sometimes the stream errors cause audio sync issues with Womble. If you want to convert, Mediacoder and Handbrake are good freeware you can use. The newer version of Handbrake dropped Xvid so you would have to download older versions to use it. Here's a sample of an Xvid encode (5Mpbs - 2 pass) of your vid with Mediacoder. In that thread, I have posted HD stuff that I have done which is a much smaller file size in an avi format. The quality between Donkeed and I are different because I don't go the long time to get a full quality vid. Best way to get if we clipped the same babe... check me out first and then find Donkeed. He gets more than I do (mostly because of my preference to record).

One other note. What you think is a large file now, you may not in the future. Compressing vids save hard drive space, but always reduces quality. People say will claim getting perfect copies with whatever codec. Even I do high bitrate Xvids encodes trying to get the perfect copy, but it still isn't the same as the original. Keeping everything in the original format is the best option IMO. Obviously if it's going to take hours to upload or it's just not worth the hard drive space for you, then convert it.

Thanks Donkeed & Rocky. Gave me some things to think about. The card records in mpeg-2 and/or h264. I'll try the h264 codec this week. The m2t file was an output from Premiere, which I used to cut unwanted frames from the clip. I'll give the VideoRedo trial a shot soon for an editor. AnyDVD Converter puts the audio out of synch on a conversion, but the file size can be controlled and the quality okay. I already have Handbrake installed, so I'll try that instead of AnyDVD.
