Hey all, I am looking to start uploading vids again in HD and I need a program that works with Macs that creates the preview images I see everyone using (donkeed, winnter, sceptrex42...). Media Player Classic doesn't work with Macs :( Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Run the Preview program (you can find it using Finder) and use Quicktime Player to find the video frame you wish to cap.
Once you're there it's easy as copy (command-c), navigate to preview program (command-tab), then new from Clipboard
(command-N). That's how I cap and it's all included with your Mac.

The tech area of the board should give some suggestions if you want to have multiple images within a single cap.

Hope this helps :shades

Thanks Bernie! Yea, I am looking for a way to do the preview images that have multiple caps in the same image and include the video info and each window has a time stamp. :)

I'm not a Mac user, but would this be what you're looking for?
http://www.peylow.se/screengrabber.html

It makes previews like this:

That's what I was going to recommend, because that's the program I use. It's only drawbacks is that the width can only go as big as 680 pixels, and it doesn't work with WMA videos. It's also the only program of this type that I know of for the Mac platform, but it does the job.

Ok, I got it to work...I guess the videos need to be directly on my Macs hard drive as it wouldn't open them up from my external drive. Another question now...it seems that the images created are being cropped, especially 1080 video. For example, a Letterman video won't even have the CBS watermark as it gets cropped by that much. Any way to solve this problem? Thanks!

It sounds like that's a limitation of the software, that it doesn't like higher res videos. HSF said there was a width limit; I'm guessing it only does up to 640x480 resolution. Again, I'm not a Mac user, so I've never used the program. It was the only one I found in a search that works on Mac, and generates the multiple thumbnail previews like you're looking for. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

The limit I was referring to was the size of the finished thumbnail sheet, not the video itself. I guess I should also add that I've only used it with SD 640x480 video, so I wouldn't know about cropping issues of non 4:3 video. Believe me, if I could find a thumbnail generator for the Mac that was better than this, I'd be using it!

Thanks for the help! I guess it is a limitation of the software. I will send the creator an email and see if this is something he can fix in a future update :) If he replies I will keep you all posted!
