I have Gsplit but I seem to have a problem whenenver I try to make videos from a copyrighted DVD. I guess it isn't possible then, right? They put some code into it? I have the files in my d drive but I can't seem to make videos from it. How does one do that? Is there another splitter program that can work with such dvds?

What does gsplit have to do with making videos from a DVD? :?

DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink can get around the macrovision encryption. After you copy your video files to hard drive, you can edit them with whatever software you use.

I split the files from dvds that I make so that I can keep the files. So I can just copy the files from the dvds onto my hard drive then? Well, I did that but nothing showed after it was put onto the hard drive. This was a vob file then. Okay. I'm trying out DVD Decrypter right now. Not sure where the files will be going to but let's see how this works. O, well. There was an error. I'll try it out later.

O, man. That works wonderfully. Not sure which files are which. I mean I looked at a short one and it was just the studio intro. Ha ha. So I guess a good thing would be to decrypt all of the VOB files then?

I usually copy the entire disc to a hard drive then use an mpeg editor like VideoRedo or Womble to edit out parts I want. VideoRedo is better since you can pick the audio or video streams in the .vob's. Some discs with multiple audio languages or different video streams for multiple camera angles can output screwy on other editors.

Well, I was able to do the last part of a movie. I watched it and it was fine. But I noticed the decrpyter still said 91 percent. So I cancelled it and then I accidentally deleted the file. Oddly enough the folder went to! So I'll keep the file and the folder next time. Anyway, odd that it said there was an error with 91 percent done. The error said something about a "condition". I'll try it again. :D When I get done with this, I'll try that VideoRedo then.

Okay. So I was able to decrypt and save the last file of the movie. But when I try to do that to the first part, 01-1, it doesn't work. Says an error. Hmm. The 2nd part worked. 01-2. Hmm. Another part worked too. So how do I fix one of the files then?

I'm not sure how to fix your broken file, but I use Free DVD Decrypter from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/

I've been using their software for over a year and can vouch for near-error free decrypts and burns (using their Free DVD Burner).

You can install each program individually or all at once.

I'm paranoid when it comes to malware, but I've encountered ZERO issues regarding any form of malware from dvdvideosoft. It does ask to install their toolbar, set their site to the home page and/or Ask.com. I just deselect all and install without issue. I've got it on W7, XP SP3 and XP SP2 machines. Two of them running Symantec and one with Avira.

Just throwing this out there as an option.

Yeah, I did six parts of it. It's just the first part of the movie that wasn't working. Anyway, got it now. It might have been malware or something. Just rebooted up and it worked. The one I have is 3.5.4.0. Works well. I got it from http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

Now I'll have to figure out how to edit these videos for my evil purposes. Ha ha ha ha haaa!

Okay. Sometimes I have problems with Gsplit just splitting a file. Is there another program that I can use to do the same thing? Maybe it's GSplit.

Have another question about GSplit. Say there's a minute long video. 50 seconds of it is really good. Now if it's the first 50 seconds then I can easily lob off the video with GSplit. But often my problem is when I want to lob off the first 10 seconds. I suppose I could use the larger file that it could be a part of and work with that. Say there's 2 minutes of it and then I could make the length 1:10 for the first file and then just 50 seconds for the second. But using just the minute video, how does one just lob the beginning 10 seconds of it?

Isn't gsplit archiving software or am I mistaken? Using software that's meant for splitting files for archiving or making smaller pieces so you can get parts small enough to be under hosting sites' limits is about the hardest way you can edit video.

You're working with recorded DVD's so the video codec is mpeg-2. Why not just use a lossless mpeg-2 editor like VideoRedo or Womble? If you don't want to shell out any cash, why not use free Virtual Dub? Granted you will have to encode the output, but it's so much easier than guess & check with with a splitting app. There's lots of info on how to use V-dub (editing out parts, export audio & video codec settings, etc.).

I'm sure I can find out how to encode but I'm really rather bad at this computer stuff. I'll look into using VirtualDub. It sounds good. Well, getting it under the size is rarely a problem for me though. But I see what you mean. So I could use Virtualdub to do the stuff(making into smaller pieces) that I'm using GSplit for now? Plus which it will help me edit the videos and combine too? Sounds good to me. Thank you for the info.

Yeah, I recall using HJ-Split to attempt a video edit once. That is no fun...Getting your hands on actual video editing software will save you a bunch of headaches.

I use VideoRedo and Womble for MPEG-2 editing, and VirtualDub if I want to encode to avi. I haven't used VDub for editing, so I can't comment on its ease of use. Womble and VideoRedo are as easy as it comes for editing. I was able to figure those out on my own in a couple minutes, having no idea what I was doing when I started.

Anyway, give it a try. Like Kevin said, there's plenty of info on the net to help you out. If you don't want to sort through all that, we're here and would be happy to help. All you have to do is ask :Kool

If you figured out gsplit, you can figure out the other software. Send me a PM if you have trouble using any of the ones I mentioned, and I can walk you through it.

I once used HJ split to combine someone else's files. That was no fun either. Okay. I'll see how it goes and if there are any problems, I'll seek the answers.
