I have researched on this forum and it has been great. The only question i have left is how do you get the multiple caps. Do you just click away like a madman to create every capture or is there a way to automate it? For instance in Media Player Classic I can create a single capture or a sheet of thumbs. But, I don't know is there away to make a series of captures, or is just keep clicking until you can't click no more. Also thanks to all of you who keep contributing it is really appreciated/ |

Welcome ErrantTemplarr. I guess what you're trying to do is make several caps and pick the best, right? Or do you mean previews for videos? MP Classic is a pain to cap with. It doesn't seem to cap on the same frame as you pause it and takes forever to render the cap. It is great for those previews on videos though. VLC player is really the easiest free software to cap with. If you want to make series of caps you can do so with whatever hotkey you have set for it. To make it easier you can slow down the video to 1/2 - 1/4 speed and snap away then go back and pick the best ones. For pay software if you have Nero or certain versions of PowerDVD you can also do the sequence caps and go back and pick the best ones. I've found the ideal way to get an perfect still is to pause right around when you want to take the still and frame advance until you have the shot you're looking for. You can do this with VLC, Nero, & PowerDVD. The frame advance also allows you to get a shot that isn't blurry where with the sequence capping method you make get caps a blurry cap from compression and motion. Just some more notes here, I like to set the VLC hotkey to something easy like "C". I think the default for C is crop so you have to change that first. Also with VLC player, make sure to set your deinterlace setting to auto so you don't get lines in your caps. See which interlacing method gives you best results with your video source, and you're on your way. |

Hi Kevin and hi Rocky, Yes, Kevin I want to make a string of stills. I see some posts and they will have a hundred stills pulled from a video clip. I appreciate the advice on slowing it down. that is so obvious and it missed that completely.I have used PowerDvd to make single caps in the past. I will have to figure out to set it up to make a string. Do you have an opinion on which is better for strings of cap out of the three you mentioned Nero, PowerDvd, and VLC? Thank you very much for your input Thanks Rocky it was a question I did see answered previously. |

PowerDVD seems to be able to make the most caps in sequence without slowing the system down. If you have a fast machine you may even be able to get a lot of caps with VLC as well. I like the quality of VLC caps though so maybe slowing down the video and getting as many as you can might work for you. Just curious, why do you want to make a string of stills? |

I use VirtualDub to save frames from video (if they are AVI or MPEG format). It also has nice filters and plugins to manipulate the video if necessary (such as Smart Deinterlace). In VLC, go to View > Advance Controls to see the frame-by-frame button. |

That was mine. I use Gadwin Print Screen with the original version of DIRECTV2PC. The upgraded versions of DIRECTV2PC do not have capture abilities. I have just bought a Hauppauge HD-PVR for the other non-DVR box and have recorded some test clips. |

I use Nero to make my caps and I click at will or with restraint to see what will be the best caps to post.
