I had a twc technician come over the other day for an unrelated matter and he messed around with my dvr settings. Since then all the channels look grainy and FNC HD looks to be 4:3. I was at the settings right now in output resolution and unchecked everything except 1080i and it seems better. O'Reilly's suit didn't have the snowy effect from before. I just wanted to know if anybody knew why this happened. |

Check an see if on your DVR the HDTV TV ratio, is set for 16.9. |

A few things to check: -Check the output aspect ratio like Laker said. Make sure you have it set to whatever your TV is. -Check the output resolution setting on the DVR. If it has a native resolution setting to change it to whatever the channel is, then pick that. If not, then manually change it to whatever the resolution. 1080i outputted at 720p reduces the resolution while doing nothing for the interlacing since the original video isn't progressive scan. Likewise, 720p outputted at 1080i doesn't increase the resolution (you can't go higher than the original source), yet you lose the progressive scan framerate. -Check your TV setting to make sure it isn't zoomed are stretched or anything other than original format. Personally, I prefer keeping SD channels in 4:3 then to stretch it to fit the screen. You lose part of the picture and the picture looks distorted. |
