whutsa CRT? sounds like a power supply issue in the monitor - probably not worth getting repaired, with flat screens as low cost as they are. |

First time I read this I hadn't really thought too much about it. I do remember something similar happening on my laptop 1 1/2 years ago. Whenever the CPU was being used a lot(playing a flash game or something), several times the screen would not turn to black immediately, but it would have this weird blend of colors with a powdery look and slowly fade to completely black and computer would go into standby. Apparently it was doing it to prevent it from getting any hotter. I cleaned some dust out shortly after that and it's never happened again. Is the whole system going off, or just the monitor? It sounds like it's overheating. |

If the green light is on, then your computer may be overheating. This happened to me at work once and the IT guy only replaced my fan. Check your fan to make sure it is functioning at full power. The cooling fans are cheap to replace.

I had a thermal issue last year with my computer. Turned out it was the CPU fan, it kept falling off because one of the tabs around the AMD processor was broken (replaced the single-clamp fan with a triple-clamp). As for CRT monitors I had one die of too much static over five years ago. |

you sure it's not the tube itself that is failing |
