When I make a mp4 video the file size is about 100MB per minute. But if I upload it to Youtube the file size is 75% less -100MB vs 25MB. Both videos are mp4. Both videos appear to have the same specs and look the same. Does anyone know why it is that way? ![]() The point being that if I re-download my video from Youtube I can post it for members at a fraction of the download time and file size. With IDM it only takes 15 seconds to re-download 25MB. |

I would assume that YouTube re-encodes the file for optimal streaming quality. I figure there's a fair amount of compression done for users with DSL and such. |

Yeah, they probably compress them. Nick, you can use a program called virtualdubmod if you want to compress your clips. |

Out of curiosity, I compared two mp4 versions of your clip of Hannah Storm 5/18/12, from WWoW via Hotfile and Youtube. Identical attributes Duration: 01:49. Resolution: 1,280x720. Frame rate: 29.97 fps. Audio codec: mp4a. Different attributes, original vs. Youtube Size: 123 MB | 28.4 MB (4.33:1 ratio). Video codec: mp4v | avc1. Bit rate: 9,443 kbps | 2,028 kbps (4.66:1 ratio)... aha. So, Youtube's compression (along with the video codec change) seems to be the main reason for the large file size difference. As long as there is no fast movement on screen... say, working out, dancing, leg crossing... 2,000-ish bit rate, combined with HD 720p, should be enough to do your sexy newsworthy subjects justice.
