Of course it is giving me fits trying to scan them. Most things say that it is not the scanner, its the software. So what programs are out there that anyone has used?????
thanks in advance.

I think it is the scanner. When scanning negatives/slides, you need to have backlight to actually illuminate the frame so it can be scanned. After that, you can just do an inverse filter in whatever photo editor you are using.
Most scanners have a special device that you can use to backlight the frame. That is what I have used. It doesn't seem to be more than a flat white lightbox.

I had to scan in a lot of slides in 2002 and 2003.l I used a umax flatbed scanner and a special traingle glass mirror thingy that came with the unit. You would put the slide under thr traingle and the light would reflect off the mirros to scan in the slide. Then using Adobe software I would invert the slide and lighten slightly +5. I did about 1,000 that way and it work well although it took for ever.
I since trashed the scanner cause it was damn too slow -- had a SCSI connection.
They make scanners that do slides and have mirros and such built in for that. I know that if you try to do it on a regular scanner it does not work propperly.
Hope that helps. Also their are companies on the internet that will scan in the slides for you.
