Post subject:  De-interlacing Problems
Hey, What's up guys,

I'm looking for some sort of software that can de-interlace a vob file before encoding it.
So that i can load the de-interlaced vob file into my preferred encoder.

The de-interlacing function on my encoder does a bad job at it. I know there are other
encoders that can de-interlace and encode at the same time, but i prefer to use my
own encoder.

What software are you using to convert?

You usually use Xvid codec so check on the configuration screen to see if has a interlaced source option. I know divx does.

As for encoding software I use Divx converter (you need the mpeg plugin for VOB files), Nero Vision, or Virtual Dub mpeg-2.

Divx is the easiest. Just drag and drop, adjust to whatever settings you want, and convert.

Nero you can edit your vids and export. The only issue I've had with it is I can't get mp3 audio on exports. I have to use AC3 which is okay, but some people don't have the codec and won't get audio fromt the clips.

Last, is virtual dub mpeg-2. It's pretty simple to use if you learn it. V-dub is good since because it has a bunch of settings. I use it mostly on vids where the audio is off sync since it has adjustment for that. Plus it's free. :mrgreen:

I'm using DVDzip pro to convert. It has an interlace option and a de-interlace option.
But your only choice for de-interlacing is Odd field and Even field? :?

I wll check out your suggestions and get back to you.

Try with divx codec, and when you configure the codec choose "interlaced source."

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going with V-dub, it's so easy to use and has
a "real" deinterlacer built in, and has good speed without quality loss.

One note on V-dub: Make sure you change the audio settings to "full processing." Afterwards pick your audio codec (mp3, ac3, etc.) It's default setting is uncompressed which makes HUGE files.

Yeah i had work a little to get ac3 codec updated on my system. But i got
it updated.
