if you own a panasonic DVD or Hard disc drive unit BEWARE before you buy non-panasonic discs....ONLY panasonic discs will work in the damn things in recording UNLESS you record in real time and at XP picture quality. I bought some fuji DVD-R discs for 40 cents apiece and the damn things will not record unless in XP quality and real time speed ( High speed recording will NOT work)....the SOB's at panasonic designed their machins to only work correctly with panasonic discs which cost about $2-3 apiece.....BEWARE

( yes I formatted the fuji discs)

I thought you would have learned that lesson when the sales guy ONLY gave you Panasonic discs when you bought the unit. :? :D

Not here, maybe it's your DVD Recorder. And other people I know have had on problems. I can't tell if I'm using panasonic discs or a nother brand.

James, I had the same problem with my Panasonic recorder so I called them up. I never got a live person, but they have a recorded message addressing the problem.

They say the reason is probably the blank discs that we buy on a spindle are defective, or at least defective to their machine. They recommend buying blank discs in jewel cases, and also recommend trying blank discs from the bottom of the spindle to see if they work.

I bought 50 blank Verbatim discs in individual cases at Sam's Club for about $26 and so far, they work great. I've not had a single failure to record.

The Sam's that I went to did not have DVD-ROMs (for re-recording) that I could find. I bought some of those at Best Buy and they also seem to work well, but are expensive.

sherlock, I should have updated this earlier....I have bought Maxell -R discs in the 25 and 50 count spindals and they work perfectly, got them for 35 cents a disc. about 50% of Fuji discs worked and ZERO memorex discs worked. Buy Maxell for your panasonic...(UNLESS its the RAM diss, on those I stick with panasonic)

one thing I do now is, if I have something I don't want to lose, I keep it on my hard drive and put a copy onto a ram disc. That way, it is on a ram just in case the HD gets wiped clean before I record it to a DVD-R.

It's a pain to record it to a ram, then back to the HD, then to a DVD-R. But if it's something good, it's worth it ;)

BTW, I did lose everything before. While I was putting things from the HD to DVD-R, a storm hit and the power went out. When it came back on, my recorder had nothing on it
