As of late, I've noticed that any DivX encoded AVI files that I try to play have a weird, interlaced, dual-image screen during playback...

Image

...I'm not completely sure, but it might have something to do with upgrading Quicktime to 7.1.5 a few weeks ago, about the time I noticed the playback problem. VLC won't play them, either. Actually, VLC doesn't seem to want to play anything, it quits after starting to play a file no matter what type.

I saw on a DivX forum that there's supposedly a G3 converter (my iMac has a G3) that's supposed to help playback, but I can't seem to submit their question form for some reason. Anybody else having problems playing back their videos lately? Any help or suggestions?

...other than buying a PC, that is.

I downloaded the latest versions of DivX and VLC previously, and they still showed the same behavior as before, which is why I'm suspecting the Quicktime upgrade.

I was a little apprehensive about upgrading to OS X, too, but once I did, I didn't want to go back. It's extremely stable and I very, very, very rarely have had to reboot due to system lockup or other issues. Navigating files through one open window is a little confusing at first, but it becomes second nature after a while (you can still toggle options to make the windows function like OS9). And assuming you're not using an Intel Mac, you can still launch OS9 apps in X through the Classic mode.

That, and all the buttons are shiny! :D

A small progress report... I finally got around to downloading the XviD codec, and now all my XviD files don't have the interlacing problem, but the DivX files still do. Better than nothing, I guess. :?

Maybe G3's are getting phased out of the developmental process. Perhaps I'm being forced into buying a new Mac at this rate... but I like my cute li'l iMac. :(

UPDATE!

I recently updated to Quicktime 7.1.6, and I can play my DivX files again! :D :D
I can only play them through the newly re-stabilized VLC (well, as stable as VLC usually is), as Quicktime Player still shows the interlaced video, as does (strangely enough) the DivX Player.

Now I can finally enjoy my po--- er, my shopping and news babe video files again! :P
