my pc monitor goes entirely yellow. this problem began some months ago but it would revert to it's normal color, but since a few days ago it's just yellow all the time

i've checked that all the cables are secure and nothing helps

is it time to get a new one?

If this is one of the big monitors, I'd say it is time to get a new one.

Tap it when it's yellow. If the color changes at all, that tells you it's one of the guns in the back.

I'd bet on it.

You should have controls to adjust about everything on your screen, even the color. They may be on the bottom od you monitor, some have buttons and others have a door to open.

What type monitor do you have. A pic of it should help to tell you what to do

It's a compaq 7550 monitor, it's at least 5 years old, crt

i tap it when it turns yellow and nothing happens

i read that there's a small chance it might be my graphics card or something

I guess the first steps to troubleshoot would be to check the obvious stuff like connections and picture adjustments.

Next thing would be to try another monitor. If you have another one somewhere or can borrow one, then switch them out and see what happens.

This does sound like something with the monitor itself so save the changing the graphics card for last. If you know someone who can repair stuff then you might even be able to save the old one and some money. You'd be surprised how many people throw away stuff that can be repaired with an inexpensive part.

Same thing happened to me approximately 2 weeks after purchasing my new monitor... an annoying yellow.

The cable (not certain what it is called) that connects it (the monitor) to the computer was loose. I had not screwed it back in after a memory upgrade. Once I did... all was fine.

But as you said... you previously checked all connections.

5 years is not bad - I have a monitor that is 11 years old that I still use on my old PC. Takes a while to warm up, but other than that, it is fine.

All the above said, I would however follow donkeed's advice.

For me it was a simple fix (thankfully).

I have no way to borrow another monitor right now.

I was thinking that if I have to buy one this one seems ok http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8439479&type=product&id=1183160137263

It says it's 1440 x 900 but on my PC right now on Display Properties under resolutions that's not one of the options.
