You're using the wrong version. The original version only worked with .avi's.

The newest version is Virtual Dub Mod. Keep in mind none of the version work with transport mpegs (.tp, .ts) files. You can just run those VideoRedoPlus to convert to .mpg.

http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

Virtual Dub doesn't show up as a program. I just put the folder in program files, and make shortcuts to VirtualDubMod.exe.

I'm telling you it's the .avi version, and it doesn't work with mpegs. Just try the version I showed you, and see if it works with Vista.

That's the same version. :?

Ask fitz where he got his. I think he's got Vista. Maybe he'll read this thread and reply.

The version i use is 1.5.4.1 (Build Release 2066). It's the only version i can convert ac3 audio in. It works perfectly with Vista.

Sorry i don't have the link, I'm sure google can point you in the right direction. :Thumb

There is no audio options on the program so audio is PCM 48000 Hz stereo 1536 kbps on regular mpegs

So the file is twice the size of mpeg using Divx codec at 3000 Kbit/s

When i try a HD mpeg it says
Video compression error The source image format is not acceptable
Error code-2

For audio, if you're using V-dub Mod you need to go under "Streams" ---> "Streams List" and it should have the audio track. Right click it then choose "full processing mode". Right click again then choose "compression." You should then see lists of you're audio codecs. Use MP3. If you're using V-Dub Mpeg-2 go to "Audio" tab instead of "Streams" and do the same steps.

The error you're getting is a codec error, not a V-Dub error. If you're using divx you configure the codec to fit within the profile. In HD profile it's 1280x720 30fps. If you're using 1080i source then resize the source to 1280x720 on the divx configuration screen.

If you're using 720p the framerate has to be reduced down to 29.97fps. Under V-dubs "Video" ----> "Frame Rate" there's a section "Frame Rate Conversion" choose the option "Convert to fps" then enter 29.97.

Sounds complicated, but it's really not. Do it a few times and you'll see.

I see the MPEG Layer 3 listed so i highlight it and press ok and the SD mpegs still come out PCM audio

Then when i try a HD mpeg i get
No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format

Why do i see some interlace in motion?

For the audio unless you have 2 channel source you won't see any options under the mp3 codec unless you choose "Show All Formats." You have to choose one of the options for V-Dub to encode audio. In all likelihood your HD recordings are 6channel AC3 so you have to check the box. 48Khz, 128Kbps, Stereo is good enough. Some mp3 codecs don't have anything higher than 56Kbps. That's why I downloaded Lame mp3 because it has the higher bitrate options.

That error about decompressor is probably because you don't have ac3 filter. This is something fitz might know about too because I don't know what will work with Vista. I'd just try a few different ones until it works.

For de-interlacing there is an option on divx codec configuration under the "Video" tab for interlaced and progressive source. For 1080i choose de-interlace source, and for 720p choose progressive source.

You're getting there.
