Post subject:  My constant problem with capping...Grainy channels

I haven't been posting again cause I am back to having a constant problem....My feedback is bad. Not as Bad as earlier in the year, but it could get there again. Something happens and the PQ levels go out of synch then the decibles are lower than they should be or higher. The channels become grainer and I can't cap. Started again not long ago.

I called the cable company in August. They fixed the issue then which included the cable box channels not working.

Now all I can say is that in capping Heidi Klum on Regis and Kelly the caps came out Grainy.

I have an amplifer, but I don't know where to hook it up to....if that helps

I get the same poor PQ with Non-HD ABC. Regis and Kelly is terrible with my cable co. too.

I think the problem is mostly ABC, using a very low bit rate.

Thanks. That could be part of the reason. I get worse feedback on R&K than the View or other shows. The only thing is that it has gotten worse. I never thought about it being the channel or network feed. I'll tell you what happend two shows ago on Thursday. When Kelly came out at the start of the show they had the set too bright then halfway through the trivia they lowered it back to usual color.

I still think that some of it might be on my end. I'll cap other channels to see how they come out.

Sometimes the PQ does change. :? For me it's Headline News, It changes from day to day. One the reasons that the view comes out cleaner is because it's cropped HD. Down converting form HD gives you higher quality.

Are you using the RF input on your card? If yes, then you're going to have inconsistency.

Signal amps only have an input and output. It's not that hard to hook up.

I see. Just read this. Not sure if the RF is turned on or not. Well I crashed my PC in December so I have a new one, but same tuner card and video card since the tuner could not work with the default. Still it could be better the caps. I'm seeing some junk once in a while in the caps. It's Hard to describe.

Sometimes I get good Caps:

But once in a while when capping they come out like this and I have to weed them out :

PS Both Imageshack and Imagevenue are running slow as of this posting.

Just started recapping. After this original post I had gave up. Then three weeks later I crashed my machine and was out three weeks without a tuner using a old computer for the a while. A power storm surge crashed the board. I was three full days without the ability to go on the web. I'll check the RF on Dscaler. It's what I use since the default stuff with my tuner is much worse.

In your last image, it looks like the interlacing fields may have been swapped. When I try to duplicate that look on a video I have here, it doesn't look quite the same, so I can't be sure. I once had a similar issue about a year and a half ago, except the distortions were running in the vertical. I noticed that recording video at 480x480 instead of 640x480 got rid of the problem (but that created an undesirable square picture). Never figured out what caused it as I did a system restore in Win XP and it went away.
