The amount of RAM affects a lot and with 3GB you should be good.

Okay so after the last thread I dove in head first and purchased a system through Dell and would like to know what you think of the specs on this system and if it should improve capping and video capturing quality. Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium with Digital Cable Support 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs 320GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability 256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio ATI Theater 650 PRO Combo Analog/Digital TV Tuner with Remote Control Thoughts? |

Looks great, congrats! 
I would have gone with XP myself. Getting Vista has it's advantages since it will eventually replace XP. You get a head start learning to deal with it sooner. |

I just ordered a new Dell for my wife with similar specs except I went with 2 GB RAM. You only need larger amounts of RAM if you are a hardcore gamer. You'll be fine for making caps and clips with that. Caveat though, be ready to back up and/or delete stuff to DVD if you record shows on your HD. donkeed wrote: I would have gone with XP myself. I wanted to have XP installed but Dell no longer gives you that option. I think it was only for the first 6 months of Vista where Dell gave you that option.

I know they still offered it on laptops, and I'm sure they have the option on desktops. They do change the options every now and then. If you check frequently you should be able to customize with XP.

I just went to their website and they still offer XP poppie yours makes my 1.5GHz,768 ram look ancient but then again I got my computer for nothing my cousin gave me his old one when he built a new one for himself

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah they still offer XP but on low end computers. Not on the XPS systems...i think. Well I am going to continue to use the computer Im on now for internet and uploading caps and vids. The new one will be only for capturing, capping, and editing. I will just transfer files to the old one. Im not the most tech guy in the world but thought those specs would be okay...but really the feed back is appreciated very much. And yeah Dell has crap customer service...but do know enough about computers that I dont think I will need that though. I guess we will find out in a week though. Thanks again all!!!!!

Regardless yes they do on XPS but think those are slim models and not sure if they are upgradable. |

When I said HD, I meant Hard Drive not High Definition.

nah its me....i just read it again. Guess I read too fast. Sorry bout that. Oh trust me I have been known to record 8 to 10 hours on the computer I have now just to catch some caps while I am at work...and its only 80 gig but thats only because my scheduler doesnt work too well on my computer. Hopefully with new computer scheduler will work much better and limit the 15 to 20 gig files I work with now
