...I saw this while browsing at the local Best Buy the other day. Any of the board's Mac users ever tried this? Not really concerned about the DVR software, but is it a good price for what it is? It looks like a tempting toy for my laptop...

:thinking

I'm not a MAC user (Woohoo  ) but I know that Pinnacle tends to have good hardware but lousy software. That would be my concern.

If you buy this, first make sure your MAC has a processor fast enough to handle streaming HD - I use the Eye TV Hybrid...

... and the Software is great too. :Typing

It comes with EyeTV Lite software, which the reviewers on the linked page says is very cumbersome and limited. I don't intend to use it as a DVR if I did get it, just for video capture... at first, anyway.

I received a new MacBook last August with a Intel dual core processor, so I'd say it's enough to handle the task. :P

Right now I'm using a USB 1.1 capture device on my aging iMac. I saw this and was thinking on whether or not it's time to upgrade. An accessory for my toy, you know what I'm saying.
A $130+ accessory, but still... :?

If you have cable tv you will want to look for a tuner that supports QAM.
That will let you watch and record directly from your local digital HD and SD broadcast channels via cable TV.

This one is a bit more then the one you found $179 but does supports digital and analog from OTA and Cable plus has video in's so you can record HL news or HSN from your digital cable box:
