Thanks for the caps. :Victory

I am still trying to figure out what I want to cap and how to go about it. I have had some issues. If I can get my act together, I would like to cap Martha daily. One problem is the set top box has been turning off abruptly overnights or when I sleep at night or go away. I had to talk to the cable company. Hopefully it is fixed now. But I use my capture card to record and every time it shuts off there goes the recording.

Another reason is I don't know how to set up the timer on the card because it is complicated. And I have to set reminders on the set top box to change the channels. Also the card doesn't like to record non-HD feeds if I am on a HD feed and flip then the recording goes off. So If I set it to change from a HD channel to one non-HD and don't have the timer figured out then it will shut off recording. I am forced to view Spanish channel, for example, in non-HD as the feeds are not in HD. So to record them after I record Fox News or a Local I would have to set up a recording to record the channel feed separately. It's complicated so I understand if a person who reads this is confused.

It's like this...since June every feed with a HD feed on the cable system is now the default channel. So Non-HD feeds are gone. But there are plenty of channels the cable company never added a HD feed from or never had a HD feed. So for example, QVC is in HD, but has my cable provider added the HSN HD feed? No. So the HSN feed is non-HD.

I gather most of you just want HD. But if I don't have access to a HD feed on a channel, I was thinking of just increasing the caps I would make to make them a little bigger and leave it at that. it wouldn't be 1920 x 1080 but so what. I don't mind.

I only aim to do caps because doing clips is too taxing and complicated for me. I don't have the right system, anyways, to do what others do I guess. I am not going to extract clips or try to convert a giant HD recording to a lower bit rate and format for uploading and downloading and for me to save. And then spend time figuring out a host to upload. It's too much work. I have other things to do that are more important.

I only aim to cap and delete recordings. Save on a DVD disk If I have to the caps.

Any caps of Martha is fine with me! They don't have to be HD. Fox doesn't broadcast in 1080 anyway and I prefer things in their proper resolution so please don't let be what stops you.

Thanks for the compliment. Actually I only have HD feeds for the major news channels of CNBC, FBN, FNC, HLN, CNN and MSNBC and all locals. If they aren't in true 1080 I never knew. But the recordings are set to 1080, though I could downgrade to 720. But I understand what you are saying. The Spanish feeds and some shopping channels and some other feeds like some channels that are obscure don't have a HD feed yet.

I just need to figure out how I can record effectively tv when I am gone or asleep without having to go get a cable companies HD DVR. I already pay a lot. But I paid for a capture card in HD from AverMedia and the timer to set up recordings is a bit tricky. Wants the time that each recording will start, but then asks for duration of the recording and not the time the recording will end. Twice I set it up and the timer did not record. By time duration, I don't know if it wants minutes or hours like 120 minutes for two hours or 2:00 for two hours. And I can't find any adequate information on setting up the timed recordings.

The other issue is a error with the power save mode that has been shutting off the set top cable box after four hours of inactivity. A recording off a capture card will do that as the box is not getting a signal of activity, but the PSM should be off as it is set to be off and yet it keeps coming back on. if I can set the box to a channel reminder for what I want recorded I hope it helps it from dying out in the middle of a show.

With the first issue, I am thinking of writing Avermedia or calling to get help with setting up recordings. With the second issue I have some ideas and hopefully setting the menu back to PSM off will also work, but it hasn't in recent days. I will have to see, otherwise I will call the cable company again.
