School closures and redistricting has been a problem with my county for decades. Especially since my area consists of the biggest county in the entire state. Since 1968 alone, one high school has been created, multiple middle schools have been built, and at the same time, several elementary schools have been closed. When I was in school, in 1990, a new elementary school was built, and the old one was used for a middle school. This was done to house a bunch of kids who would otherwise have gone to either Jefferson Forrest high school to the north, or Staunton River High School in the southern end of Bedford County. These days, that very same middle school is closed down and turned into apartments after a new middle school was built. It's like Bedford bulges at the seams in some areas and restricts in others. It's a never-ending cycle.
