I'm not one of them, I was on the fence about her till I had the unfortunate displeasure of listening to her ad-lib a segue by going on a ill-informed political tangent. It was enough to make former weatherman John Bolaris get noticiably pissed off. He's since been replaced, CBS and the Weather Channel have some sort of affiliation and Bolaris wasn't towing the political line.
When did this happen? Bolaris' contract was not renewed since about June '07 and he was do to leave WCBS in Oct. '07.
I'm thinking winter/spring 07. It was when they had started moving him around a bit and he'd pop up on mornings, nights or whenever. I guess they'd already picked up Elliott. This incident and his non-renewal are probably unrelated. Bolaris used to call in WFAN to talk with Joe Beningo and Sid Rosenberg and he'd never pull any punches when discussing using the weather and how in his opinion it was being used as propaganda.
Bolaris had always been one of the more vocal anti-global warming hype guys. Kate's segue was talking about some weather disaster movie or documentary (might have been the Al Gore flick) she'd just seen and went into a political tangent.
Both Dubois and Bolaris were kinda befuddled by her getting political at length, Dubois played it diplomatic saying something like "remember its a movie and you're seeing it from one perspective." Bolaris said something to the effect of "leave the weather to the meterologists." and she continued on and on, he took a dig at her or something like "Kate, can I do the weather now?" He also threw a few digs in during his segments later. There seemed to be tension for the rest of the show.
Other than that incident it seems Kate does talk way way way too much.
