I'm going to presume that you are trying to cap your videos in full-screen mode with Gadwin. Capping from a video in full-screen mode in some media players using certain third-party screen capture apps will create a black image. For example, when I tested Gadwin, I get a black image when capping videos in full-screen on Windows Media Center, but when capping videos in full-screen with VLC, the image will be created.

I honestly can't help anymore than that since I don't have Directv, but I hope that at least explains why you're be getting black images.

Ok - So now I have a HP 2509m LCD monitor that is HDCP capable.

However, whenever I do a cap from Direct2tv I just get a black image.

How do I capture an actual image?

I have tried Hypersnap (I own it).

I have also tried Gadwin PrintScreen - still getting a black image.
- - -> I have 4 monitors (3 non-hdcp) When I try and capture the primary screen (the HP) Gadwin always captures the last screen I clicked on - which I have to do to get rid of the progress bar.

1. How can I capture an image that is not all black using Directv2pc?
2. Any advice on always capturing a certain monitor no matter which one has the focus?

Thanks

Hypersnap usually grabs everything, but I believe if you're using hardware acceleration, it may not grab it from video. I use Hypersnap successfully with DirecTV2PC.... there might be a hardware acceleration disable in the capture options of the hypersnap software, or in the driver for your card.

Try it with one Monitor on in your set up, or updating your graphics card drivers.

I must be an idiot.

I downloaded VLC Player. Which I thought was a strange name for something that captures stills/video as well.

How do I use VLC to capture a Still? Video?

I'll get some good caps if I can ever get this to work...

Thanks

You can create caps in VLC by pressing the default hotkeys Shift+S. As far as I know, VLC can only create screenshots in the output resolution of the video regardless of the video mode (full-screen or windowed) you are watching and capping in, but that shouldn't be an issue unless your capping SD video.

I've never been able to get VLC to playback the DirecTV2PC stream.... be interested in how you got that to work.

Anyway, you can make the Snapshot keys be anything you want.

VLC menu, Settings, Preferences, Interface, Hotkeys settings, click advanced options. About 3/4 of the way down the scroll bar, Take Video Snapshot is where you can set that up to your liking.

Starting to think this might be impossible with Direct2pc - I know others say they do it - But it sure does not work for me.

I just think it might be something in your set up. If you are able to watch DirecTV2PC on your PC, then its a matter of where your PC is rendering the stream. That's usually beatable by deactivating hardware acceleration.

Hypersnap and a couple of other screencapture pieces of software works fine for me.

Whenever I start trying to grab the video with something like Camtasia Studio, I get a black video as the result. Audio is nice though :)

It can be trial and error.... don't give up too early.

I haven't updated my drivers because doing so would make a black image with DirecTV2PC but I roll them back it works again. I think I made a post about it sometime last year.

Found my old post about upgrading GeForce drivers to 181.22 (since then I tried to upgrade to 190.62 with the same result):

I did one roll back. Same result, not sure if I can roll back again - will try it.

Does anyone know how to turn off hardware acceleration on a Nvidia GeForce 880 GTS?

There is nothing inside of Directv2pc to disable hardware acceleration - not that I expected it to be there.

Just wondering if there is any new information on this problem of the new DIRECTV2PC program blocking screen captures of HD material? Does anybody have an effective work-around?

I was almost burned on this, but was able to roll back to a beta version of the program from before they blocked this capability. However, it would be nice to be able to use the newest version, as it seems to run smoother and appears to have better video quality.
