How does one get a DVD+RW recorded off the TV on a DVD recorder to play on a computer?

Here's what I just found...The model is a Sanyo DRW-1000 DVD recorder.

The machine is a neato.

I recorded 2 hours from VHSc to DVD-R.

Copied it from the recorded DVD to my HD.

Used Roxio 6 to drag the folder to a DVD-R.
Finalized it to ISO.

It plays on the computer (on InterVideo WinDVD 5)! YeeeeeeeeeeeeeHa!
I got caught up in frame captures, but am off to the TV now...
Betcha it plays!

Am back. It does play from the Mintec DVD player to the TV!!!

The copy would not play from the Sanyo DVD unit, however, so need to tweak.

I will change DVD recording software from Roxio 6 to Clone DVD2, the "sheep software" as well like to call it.



Does this mean that the DVD+RW won't work? Does it have to be DVD+R to be viewed on the computer? Is that cause a DVD+R can be finalized?

Wait a minute.....That said DVD-R. But my model can't play or record DVD-R. HUMMM....

I have a stand alone DVD recorder for my TV, which records DVD-Rs & DVD-Rams. My computer records DVD+Rs & DVD+RW. I don't know about DVD+Rams, never tried it

My stand alone does not play DVD+Rs, DVD+Rams or DVD+RW

My computer plays DVD-Rs, DVD+Rs and DVD+RWs but will not play DVD-Rams. I don't know about DVD-RW, never tried it

I don't know if they make a DVD+Ram disc, but know why not. To me, the Ram and RW disc are the same

So after I put stuff on a DVD-R disc and finalize it, I can play it in my computer and use Cyberlink PowerDVD6 or use my graphic card which can get stills.

The graphic card said that I can hook up a DVD player or a VCR to it. I have not tried that yet, but if I can, that will save alot of time for VCR tapes that I got

For my computer to play a DVD-R, I have to finalize it in the stand alone before the computer will play it or any other DVD player to play it. I would guess that you would have to use a finalized DVD from your recorder before your computer will play it, the same as mine

Thanks for the information. I found out, last night, that DVD+RW or DVD-RW discs can't be finalized since it can be recorded up to 1,000 times. So I guess I'll be using a DVD-R disc and finalizing it, like you said.

You can finalize +RW and -RW. They play on the computer just fine, just like a DVD

Yup, but closing them is a waste of one expensive DVD. I bought a whole stack of 30 -RW's, and ended up only using a couple.

It doesn't help that DVD-R is the most used format, and a lot of DVD players simply cannot read RW's of any kind even when closed.

Thats the reason why I never tried finalizing the DVD-RW or Ram. Why do that when DVD-Rs are alot cheaper then the Rams or the RWs and you can use RW and Rams over and over til you finalize them ?

I have had 2 Rams go bad on me now within the last 2 weeks or so. Same age and make (Panasonic) and I have read that, the CDs and DVDs that first came out will not last anywhere as long as thought, do to the coating or something they put on them.

Kind of makes one think, just how long will they last ? Just cus they say 1000 recordings or they will last forever, doens't make it so.
