Wide World of Women

This show began with Kendice Gibson and Janai Norman anchoring. Before a commercial break they teased an announcement "nine months in the making". This should have been an announcement for Diane Macedo's pregnancy, but no. She appeared at the news desk as if Kendis had been dreaming for months, and that he'd been through 12 other female co-anchors. The announcement was that it was Diane's last official day. They went through the usual montage of clips, and the ceremonial placement of her picture among the wall of co-anchors in this show's 27 year history. Then came the announcement that Janai would become Kendis' permanent co-anchor.

So this begs the question that I've been pondering for months; Where is Diane going from here? Obviously, she'll be going on maternity leave, but is she staying with ABC? Is she going to be doing her current occasional stories on Good Morning America? This question is still unanswered.

Maybe she'll focus on her singing career

This is an interesting point. Since she is a mom-to-be, could Diane leave TV news entirely and focus on her other talent, singing. She could focus on puting out an album, and maybe still do her occasional stories for Good Morning America.

Had no clue. They do seem to go through a lot of people there. Wish Diane well.

Those hours have to be a killer

That would suck for us (well I don't see World News Now but seen Diane on a post here or there and also heard of her from her Fox News days). Yeah, I've been here and other news lady boards for a while. It sucks when our favorite news ladies decide to leave the news biz for a number of reasons rather it is another job, career change, decided to be a stay at home mom, among others reasons. It sucks but it's their lives. I know maestro's favorite anchor Courtney Robinson came to my neck of the woods because Heather Van Nest left because she didn't want to come home at midnight with two young kids. Also, Courtney took over for the morning show for a while because the morning anchor Jackie Fernandez left after nine months because she wanted to leave the biz just cause. (Also Courtney is about to go on leave). I know the news hours are rough and even if you work on the midday it seems it's still rough. I remember on another news channel, Ashley Glass worked on a 4 PM newscast but left shortly before having her second kid.

Yeah, woke up in the middle of the night and caught that segment on WNN. But at 3am, the new girl came back on and quickly switched the channel and fell back asleep. Macedo is a gem, it's not just her smile and attractiveness, but she portrays kindness and a genuine side on the air. I doubt we have seen the last of her. Don't forget, she spent many years at Fox Business before the ABC gig. Someone with that much experience is bound to show up somewhere. And for that matter, perhaps she intends to stay with ABC after this maternity leave. She would be perfect hosting GMA weekends (which Eva Pilgrim took over from Paula Faris a few weeks back) but not keen on Pilgrim, and bet Macedo would be a better fit. Diane is very active on social media - have seen her Facebook and Twitter page - perhaps she will update us there in the upcoming weeks/months. Macedo is one of my favorites, and here's hoping she eventually returns (ABC or otherwise....)
