"According to the magazine People en Español, Luisa Fernanda, 36, was fired from Cotorreando for using the term "cherna" in Wednesday's broadcast. Although in Mexico, the word is a synonym of a grouper fish, it is used pejoratively by Cubans and other Caribbeans to refer to a gay man, according to a spokesperson for GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Telemundo announced that it "decided to terminate our relationship with Luisa Fernanda because she behaved in a manner that is not consistant with the culture of our company, including our respect for diversity." Monica Taher, media director of GLAAD, told La Opinión that "we are seeing a radical cultural change in Spanish media, which makes us feel happy and proud." Luisa Fernanda is a former member of the Mexican music group Garibaldi, and has appeared in vaious telenovelas and as host of the Spanish-language Home Shopping Network. In 2001, Telemundo hired her to co-host Cotorreando with veteran Cuban journalist Mauricio Zeilic. Cotorreando is broadcast at noon on KVEA Channel 52 in Los Angeles."

I did watch the show opening today not knowing she was gone yet and Luisa is gone from the show opening animation and a guest co-host was on.

Bring back Natalia Villaveces and i'll be a happy camper.

I started taping the show a few days ago and did notice she was gone..too bad groups have become hyper-sensitive to a word.

I'm going to miss Luisa and her beautiful body.

I feel sorry for Mauricio. He won't have anyone to grope now.

Well, the company has the freedom to fire people, too. She was quite free to speak; but people are not obliged to like what they hear, and are quite free to act upon it, hopefully in a civilized manner. The wonders of democracy.

As hot as Luisa is she will have not problem finding a position at telemundo's rival Univision. Wouldn't it be nice if she was paired up with Pita again.

Pathetic. It matters more who you offend than the context of the remark or the history of the person quoted. People need to lighten up. There is a difference between outright bigotry and casual remarks.

Yes thanks for the info.

Seems to me there had to be something else that factored into this. Perhaps ratings are lower than Telemundo would like and she was an easy target since it seemed she was there more for eye candy (in the middle of the day with a mostly female audience???). Maybe she and Mr. Hands didn't really get along (sexual harrasment lawsuit? - probably not since, I bet she wants to work in television again).

Oh well, the babe(s) they have had on this past week don't fit the bill. If it wasn't for Maria Celeste, I would have no reason to tune into that second tier network.

The only real way they can salvage this is to get back Natalia Villaveces. If they don't get her back, or someone of her caliber, hotness wise, you can kiss this show goodbye within a year or less.

Wouldn't this be awesome if Luisa would to to DA on Uni and they would have Luisa, Ana and Karla! Maybe Luisa would replace Fernando, now wouldn't that be sweet.
