How do i capture video like everyone else?

Thats my question guys.

I would like to be able to upload videos but i have no idea how to do it.

Help?

Do you mean capture digital cable through a video connection (s-vid, composite) or the signal right to the tuner card?

You'd need a tv-capture card for your PC. Might be a PCI card, or you could get something that goes to the USB port. Make sure it's compatible with the signal you get in your area, mainly analog or digital. My card understands both.

Then, you propably get some sort of software with it, Powercinema is common, and does a good job at taking captures and video.

(I used to use something called Dscaler, but it doesn't understand digital, I fear. And as my glorious nation went digital just a while ago...)

For the upload, I think you need to get permission from moderator for Coppermine, if you wish to upload there. For any free imagehost or videohost, it tends to be even simpler.

Well see thats the the thing i'm not to good when it comes to this.

What i'm trying to do is copy off my Time Warner Digital Cable DVR box to my hard drive and then upload those videos.

I need to know if it possible, and if it is then what exactly do i need.

I'm trying to add a lot of clips to the forum but just need someone to help me on the how to part.

You can do it a few ways. One way is to get a tuner card with a video input. I recommend an s-vid over composite. Hook that up from the dvr to the tuner, and you can capture to hard drive with the right software.

Another way is to burn dvd's using a set top dvd burner. Then you can use software to take stills or edit vids. You will of course need a set top dvd recorder to record the shows, a dvd drive on you pc, and dvd media.

Keep in mind both of these methods won't work for HD content.

Can you tell of few tuner cards like the one your referring too?

I've searched a few places but i have seen that they are only for standard cable that only reach 125 channels max and don't support Digital Cable

My Time Warner Digital DVR box has like 3 times that or more.

What Donkeed is saying is when you connect it up, you play the show on the DVR and record/cap to your computer using the tuner. Tuners can record/cap stuff from a DVD or VCR playing. The channel stuff is irrelevant unless you are recording/capping directly from a channel. :Kool

So what your saying it doesn't matter what kind of tuner i buy as long as i have the show recorded on the DVR?

Can you recommend a reliable quality tuner?

Their are internal and external usb ones i believe.

The card I had before I got my Fusion Gold HDTV card was a TVT3 Angel MPEG card, and it worked fine. I got it from dell parts. The main reason I got it was because it's Media Center compatible. There are other cards out there that others might know about and recommend.

Really the only suggestions I'd make is to get a PCI card over USB and a S-Video input over a composite. Make sure your system meets the requirements for whatever card you get, and check to see if the software you plan to use is compatible with the card.

I can't since I record shows with a DVD recorder and then I use Nero (DVD playing program) to make my caps or other programs to make my clips.

Nero Showtime is the app. Just press 'C' to take stills. You can set the destination folder for the caps under configuration.

Clicking the "Camera" icon makes caps as well if you are not doing that. :Kool

I was thinking of getting a set top DVR.
Is it possible to transfer the recorded video files as one would move files across a network?
Or is the only way to play the video on the DVR and record it on the computer at standard speed and create a new video recording?

With Tivo DVR's there are ways to network and extract content. Also some cable dvr's with firewire outputs you're able to stream the vids to your PC. You need a firewire port of course.

Do you mean a Digital video recorder or dvd recorder? If you're talking about a DVD recorder then yes you can. Simply put the disc in your rom and rip the vob from the disc using something like DVD Decrypter, you can then play the disc in a program that will let you cap also like PowerDVD.

Cap in BMP or Png, try irfanview and convert to jpg.
