This the Betamax versus VHS but only with HD DVDs. Toshiba had been pushing for the HD DVD format to be the norm but Warner Brothers just announced that they intend to only sell HD video in BluRay format only instead of both formats. As a result of that decision, Toshiba is dropping the whole HD DVD format altogether. As a result, those who bought the units and discs will have to spend money to switch to BluRay. :Kool

bluray players need to come down in price before Id buy one cheapest one ive seen is $400 :yuck

You can find PS3 for less. I don't like Sony winning this format war because they seem to overprice everything. Although HD DVD has less capacity and capability in the long term, I don't know if it's going to be worth the price. We'll see how it plays out.

Xbox 360 dropped the HD DVD drive. I'd say it's over for HD DVD.
