If you are looking for a tuner to record OTA and Local channels from Digital Cable, I just got the Fusion RT 7 Gold.
http://www.fusionhdtv.co.kr/ENG/product ... TGold.aspx

I had an older FUSION card which worked fine for cable tv but tuning in the OTA local channels was not the best.
With the new card I can now tune in all local channels in my area.

The only issue with the card is currently you can't record from the S-VIDEO or RCA analog input to MPEG2. But there should be a fix for that out shortly.

I got the fusion 7 USB for my laptop, and you can capture in mpeg-2 using different software like Nero Vision. The Dvico software has many wmv formats and avi, but I haven't tried those. Here's Nero Vision sample...lovely test subject too. :)

Note that the vid isn't actually the HD channel since it was captured using an s-vid connection.

Reception of OTA channels was good on Friday but today is as bad as it was with the old card :?
I wonder if the weather has that much of an effect on reception?

I'm pretty sure there's nothing the card will be able to do about atmospheric moisture, ionic activity, and the other intangibles that would interfere with the signal. I think the improvements were made on sensitivity which I have noticed is better even with the USB card.

I still get moody NBC signal that acts up for a few days, then it's back to normal. That's OTA for you. Who knows...maybe it's solar wind.

You couldn't capture the Fox HD stream right? The channel encrypted?

No, can't capture with fusion 7. Yes encrypted.

Only OTA and unencrypted QAM signals work.

Thinking of getting what you have. Just have one question. You can tune into Cable HD/Satellite HD channels with these right, not just the local stations ex.. HBO, SNY etc....? I just want to watch HD on the computer. Basically you just connect a coaxial cable to the OUT of the converter box into the Fusion usb coaxial in, right?

Thanks

Unfortunately you can't do it because the channel is encrypted as most cable channels. The only channels that card will be able to pick up the QAM feed from cable are the unencrypted channels. That means only locals for the most part.

Is the firewire DVHS method not working out for you? I would think that would be the most straight forward approach to getting content from cable boxes that have firewire support.

I would also try searching around a little for other options if you really want to watch the HD cable channels. I think the new series 3 tivo's have ways, and I've also heard of some ATI card that has a cable card option. I haven't tried either because I have directv, but it might be worth researching. I can get HD content from a non-conventional method (see bikini destination video thread or Erin Andrews caps) with my tivo, but the problem is the tivo isn't able to receive any of the newer channels they've added.

Yes, firewire is working for grabbing HD stream. What I meant was that I wanted to get a tv card so I can watch HDTV on my computer monitor instead of my lcd tv.

Wait are you sure you can't just watch those channels cause wouldn't the cable or satellite box decrypte everything and then you are feeding it out to the Fusion?

I'm positive you can't do it with Fusion. I know Ice has stumbled on channels that were unencrypted while scanning, but that's only once in a blue moon. There are expensive professional cards that you can get, but who wants to blow thousands of dollars on a card?

There's a new component PVR from Hauppage that's being released this month, but it has it's ups and downs. Check AVS Forum's thread on that as well for more info.

Just another note on Fusion 7. Ice hasn't chimed in, but he's said that it has had issues with mapping QAM channels. I only use it for OTA so I don't know how reliable it is for working with cable channels. You might want to do a little researching on Fusion 7 to see how people have fared using it with QAM.

Ok thanks, I wouldn't think it would work either since it's essentially the same way you hook up your box to a tv but to get HD to the TV you need to hook it up via component or hdmi so doing it to the Fusion with the coaxial it has shouldn't work :jetserl
