Wonder if anyone else had similar issues today. I tried to tape the Presidental events today, mainly because I had to get some work done and couldn't be home all day. My DVD burner attached to my TV didn't record all of the coverage on FOX5DC saying it was copyrighted. It recorded the events up to the point he was to take the oath and then it stoped and I came home to the message saying can not record program is copyrighted. The other machine that was set-up for later in day for C-Span to get the parade and then the ball on ABC. The Presidental ball on ABC did not record saying it was copyrighted.

Also I was taping to a VHS MSNBC coverage this afternoon on a third machine. After the ball coverage failed. I started to burn the VHS stuff (dubbing feature on my VHS-DVD recorder) and it would not dub over saying it was copyrighted.

So did anyone else attempt to record todays events and did they have any issues not being able to record it to a DVD? What channels were effected.....

dave

President Al? :?

Anyway, I programmed HLN's coverage on my Panasonic DVD recorder. I had no issues recording or finalizing, but Comcast still put their local news and commercials on at the half hours, including in the middle of Obama's inauguration speech. I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone by getting a little Robin leg and preserving a moment in history, but Comcast in it's own way said no. :no

If you recording with a macrovision compliant recorder then you might have had problems depending on the station. Channels can encrypt their feeds so you can't record. Macrovision is an old encryption system, and there are ways around it if you search. A simple one I did when I used my DVD recorder a lot was to pipe the signal through an old VCR. Older VCR's never had macrovision so it would get rid of the encryption on the output.

I moved this to tech support as well.
