I wonder who will have the better HD broadcasts when HSN goes HD?

HSN Adding 43 Sony HD Cameras

HSN, the interactive lifestyle network, is converting to high-definition operations with the installation of 43 Sony HDC-1400 HD cameras at its seven-studio television production complex in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The new high-definition plant being created is fiber-based and also included Sony MVS-8000 switchers and XDCAM camcorders, as well as BVM-L2300 master monitors and LUMA LCD monitors.

"The TV screen is our storefront window so it’s important that we present our products using the highest quality presentation available today," said Noley Keener, HSN’s vice president of broadcasting. "HSN has been a ‘Sony house’ for some time, and they have been the perfect company to guide us as we enter the world of high-definition television. Because HSN broadcasts live, 24/7, we turned to Sony not only for its best-in-class technology, but for its reliability and familiarity. Keeping the learning curve minimal for our crew was essential in order to maintain full operation of the network during the transition."

Keener said that the network, which has a reach of more than 92 million households, also selected Sony HD technology due to the company’s track record for sales and service support.

QVC recently fixed their issues with macroblocking and the feed is very clean. They also stopped keeping the graphic on the side of the screen.

Now they just need make the SD feed letterboxed full time so they make better use of the 16:9 frame.

"HSN expects to launch a native-HD version of the network in early August."
