Apologies for not adding this question to ResplendentRegina's thread... but I have a question that I cannot seem to find a definitive answer to...

My question is:

Can I purchase an upgrade of Windows 7 with only Vista Basic?

I do not know why MS makes it so difficult to find this answer.

In the past, I know that they (MS) have limited their upgrades to new OS's - i.e. you could only "upgrade" XP to Vista if you had the Professional or Media Center Editions. If you had the Home Edition, you had to purchase the Full version and could not simply purchase an upgrade (I believe).

Is this the case in updating from Vista to W7?

My PC came with Basic and I was tempted to upgrade to Premium long ago - until I found what a horrible OS it was... lol!

I would like to upgrade as soon as possible, but as you know, you cannot return software. So before I purchase I would like some help.

Any information given would be extremely helpful. I can no longer stand Vista.

;)

Here is what I found about upgrading to 7

Windows 7 Upgrade System Requirements

To be eligible for this offer, you need to be running a genuine copy of the Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems.

1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.

1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2GB RAM (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

Hope that helps :Kool

So I would think even with basic you could upgrade as they do not specify which version of Vista you must have. I would probably make sure to have the latest service pack installed.
