Is there any program I can use to get the files I have with a .tp extension to burn to a dvd so I can watch them on a dvd player? Right now I can watch the dvds on my laptop fine with vlc or media player classic but in the format they're in they don't show up when I put the disc in the dvd player. Do I need to convert them to another format? and if so will that kill the quality?

Anyone else having this problem or do you just watch them on your laptop/computer?

For a regular set top DVD player, you need to create a DVD in a format that it will recognize. I don't know of any free software that creates DVD's that playback on DVD players, but Nero Vision works. It takes a long time to re-encode the vids sometimes if you change the bitrates up to fit them to discs. There will be some quality loss if the software re-encodes.

I've heard of some DVD players that playback certain codecs like DivX and Xvid on plain data discs. I'm sure there are ones that playback mpeg-2 files, and in all likelihood. the .tp or .ts file is a transport stream mpeg-2. If you just change that to program stream mpeg-2 (.mpg) it might playback on those types of DVD players. If you check the software links above there should be free software that remuxes .tp to .mpg with no quality loss.

A better option, IMO, is if your laptop has a VGA or other type of video output you could possibly connect that to the TV. Some TV's have VGA inputs, and others work with the DVI outputs that some graphics cards have. Some cards even have s-video output for non HDTV's. If you do that and play around with the multiple display settings on the card, you wouldn't even have to burn any data discs. Just play stuff right off your hard drive or external HDD.

Thanks for the answers guys.. I went ahead and bought the covertxtodvd full version with no watermark. Works pretty good.
