First thing, unplug it and don't do anything on that drive!
Next try freeware before you buy anything. Here's a link to Test Disk which I've used successfully.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDiskHow did you lose all the data? Is the drive still recognized by windows?
i just restarted my computer, when it came up the data was gone.
i have used pc inspector file recovery and it does work,it found each individual file.is there any software the recovers the data the way it was?
the drive is now recognized as a local disk instead of a maxtor drive.when i click on it the computer asks if i want to format the drive.
well i have quite some experience.. there are many softwares.. as kevin said..
there is get back data and other stuff..
i have tried replicating the issue which you had..
i have an old version of Disc probe (by microsoft ) this used to come with windows 2000 sp4.. i am sure you would get it.
this is really pain staking.
