So I'm finally getting an HD television for my bedroom where my dvd recorder is,I will also buy the HDMI cables too. But I wanted to know if my DVD recorder will record my programs that my tv is putting out in HD also? or will it still record in standard mode as if there was no HD signal at all?

thanks :D

DVD recording won't record HD even with an HDMI input. You may not even be able to get picture unless you adjust the output on your STB to SD resolution. To record HD similar to the way you record on your DVD recorder, you need to get an HD Capture device. There are several on the market that work with HDMI & component output like the Hauppauge HDPVR, AverTV HD DVR card, and Hauppauge Colossus card.

BTW, what's your HD source. You only mentioned you're getting an HDTV. Are you getting from cable/sat, antenna/qam (cable), or blu-ray, computer etc. ?

Yeah, then you'll need the something to capture with. I would make sure your DVR has the outputs of the device you are interested in, i.e. component, HDMI. I've heard of some manufacturers not supporting component for HD output because of the non encrypted analog signal.
