Is winTV7 player good enough to cap or must I use window media center and how do I go about scanning channels on it?

Pictures and if I can a few clips. Actually I need to record files to cap later when I am not home. The DVR won't work with it as it won't get the QAM channels. The DVR is older model. I need to know how to use windows media center and get it working, should I use it. All I have now is the wintv7 video player working. I am not sure even on the win7 how to schedule recordings. Just getting around to reading.

If you have cable just connect the wire from the wall directly to the pc tuner on the cable input and scan for QAM :)
Try it both on wintv and Media center

Looks Like it scanned on its own. I must have done the scanning earlier but the windows media center did not find the QAM. Tips on how to re-scan it to find the Qam channels? All I got were the SD.

I did a re-scan and no additional channels were found. But ion the win tv7 it has the qam channels.

I can only scan for QAM on wintv because my Vista Media center does not Support QAM

Well Thanks Cobra that answered my question. On mine it detects the QAM tuner but no channel comes up on scan so it can't detect either. Ah but I see the manual says I need a TV pack 2008 or I can use Sage Tv, Beyond TV or just stick with win tv7.
