No doubt about Rickles' style, but it's old-school insult comedy, not topical comedy. I don't ever remember him get political, or go after a young person like Bristol. Even back in the day, on Carson's Tonight Show, his targets were fellow celebs like Sinatra, or Carson himself -- friends in other words... whenever a stranger or more serious guest came out, he usually came out of character and behaved himself with class on the couch -- just like he did with Bristol.
Hasn't changed his approach even all these years later.
