Interesting article in The Atlantic Monthly on Fox News' make-up department and their penchant for being more concerned about how the anchors look than what they say.

The Fox News ladies seem to be OK with it, as Anna Kooiman pointed out ;)

Ainsley Earhardt received an award at her alma mater, South Carolina, a few years ago.
One of her professors spoke at the ceremony and said, "Ainsley, remember that talk we had about always dressing professionally? Well, you work for Fox now, so keep on wearing those miniskirts, heels and sweaters."

Ditto on that.

What I found interesting was the hotline the execs have to the make-up room that they use to voice their displeasure when it arises. They put a lot of stock in how their talent looks on air and I guess the ratings don't lie.

What I always wondered about was the outfits the ladies wear - whether they're approved by the Fox execs or what. If Ainsley Earhardt came in a few weeks in a row dressed like a pilgrim would they call her into the office for a chat?

How they arrive at work is probably like most of the other talent on any network... in something lower-key or casual
from home. Many times the wardrobes are already at the studios, and they change once they're there.
Besides, it's no accident that the ladies on Fox & Friends First for example, are always coordinated, never in the same colors
as each other. (One Heather in red, the other Heather in blue, etc. )

Even true for the guys. You don't often see a shot of someone like Brian Williams or Anderson Cooper arriving at their
buildings in full suits & ties -- sometimes, but not every day. The "commuting outfit" is rarely the same thing seen on the air.

So sure, Ainsley could try that pilgrim thing anytime she wants to -- but if she refused to change out of it,
THEN she'd probably be in some deep doo-doo.

Along with the usually but not always the standard issue beige heels. They never usually wear two piece outfits though it seems each Fox girl has at least two or three unique outfits that none of the other women are allowed to wear. That's really my only complaint I guess. I like the dresses and all but it'd be nice to see them on occasion mix in some tight blouses and skirts(I love that look).

Hey don't get me wrong I love the Fox gals but they don't have as much variety in wardrobe as the other networks.
